What’s on the Harley Team’s current Book Love List?

Find out what we’ve got our nose in right here. You might just want to grab yourself a copy!

Team Member’s Name: Jess

Book Title/Author: An oldie but a goodie – The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Tell us a bit about it. No spoilers please! I hadn’t read this since I was at high school and wanted to reread it with the release of Baz Luhrmann’s movie (which ps I loved – it’s a visual feast). Told from the point of view of Nick Carraway, it tells the story of his cousin Daisy, her husband Tom Buchanan and the mysterious and evasive Jay Gatsby. Set in Long Island, New York, in the golden days of the 1920s, it’s a snapshot of the time: fast, excessive, romantic, heartwrenching.

Would you recommend to a friend? Yep.

What’s next on your ‘must read’ list? Hey Jo, by Jo Wood, an account of the 30 years she spent as the partner and wife of Ronnie Wood (of Rolling Stone fame).

Thanks for sharing Jess!

4 THOUGHTS ON "BOOKS WE LOVE WITH JESS"
Chris Butler On 20 Jun 2013 15:52 Said:
Been busy working on the Great Gatsby with my students and see a lot of Fitzgerald's life in the story. Haven't read it myself yet but certainly one for the summer reading list. Lots of books to recommend but The Island is probably one of my favourites, along with The Help. The Island by Victoria Hislop is based in Crete and is essentially about the affect Leprosy has on the lives of a community - It's touching and informative.

Hi Chris, thanks for those recommendations. I haven't read The Help, but loved the movie and it's definitely on my 'to read' list. Thanks for stopping by! Jess x

I think that I will have to read Gatsby again. I read it in high school (just like you) and feel like a need a refresher before the movie. As for books that you MUST read - check out, "A Booke of Days" By Stephen J Rivelle - it's a diary from the crusades that has been translated from ye' olde French into modern english! Such an amazing read!
