Harlequin launches Hi-Viz Kids - a child safety initiative!
So… did you tune into the Today Show on Channel 9 yesterday morning for the big reveal of Harlequin’s amazing new initiative?
And if you missed it… Drum roll please!!!!!
Harlequin was at Parklea Public School yesterday morning, bright eyed and bushy tailed and super excited to FINALLY be able to reveal a very special safety initiative for kindergarten kids. It’s a project that is very important to us and close to our hearts.
Every year, 2000 school-aged children are involved in road accidents in NSW alone. We take kids and their safety very seriously and want to help keep them safe on their way to and from school.
All our roadwork crews, postal workers, construction workers, emergency crews, school playground attendants and, not least of all, our well loved school ‘lollypop’ men and woman, have to wear high visibility clothing.
Yet we still continue to send the most valuable of all – our kindergarten children – out into the road system to school every day, with the overwhelming majority wearing dark coloured school uniforms and backpacks.
Surely there’s something we can do, I hear you ask!?
We want to increase the visibility of our children in and out of the 40kph school zones, in turn improving their safety and building a culture of road safety awareness.
And how will we do this? ... by making our kids Hi-Viz Kids!
What’s the one item our children wear every day to and from school? A school backpack! So we’re transforming this already established everyday item into a piece of safety equipment by providing students with a FREE high visibility, high quality, fluoro, ergonomic school backpack.
The Premier of NSW, Barry O’Farrell, on behalf of Harlequin and our project partners Transfield Services and Transport NSW, announced yesterday morning that we are embarking on this exciting new child safety program, Hi-Viz Kids.
Valued at over $260,000, the seed program will provide 5,400 high visibility ergonomic school backpacks to kindergarten students in over 80 identified public schools within a geographically targeted area of Western Sydney – one of Australia’s region’s with the highest crash history. The Harlequin school backpacks will be provided at no cost to students, schools or parents, to improve youth safety when traveling on public roads to and from school.
